Michael Lumpkin
The Honorable Michael Lumpkin serves as a commissioner on the Afghanistan War Commission. He is also the managing director of the Fera Group. Previously, Lumpkin was appointed the Special Envoy and Coordinator of the State Department’s Global Engagement Center. He has served the Department of Defense as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict (SO/LIC). Additionally, he served as a senior executive at both the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs. Lumpkin has more than 20 years of active duty military service as a US Navy SEAL. He has participated in numerous campaigns and contingencies throughout the world to include both Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Lumpkin is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and has an M.A. from the Naval Postgraduate School.
