The AWC is seeking a Citations Copy Editor
The Afghanistan War Commission is seeking a copy editor to perform fact-check editing on citations in its Final Report, the summation of the Commission’s Congressionally mandated review of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021. The positioninvolves reviewing citations of an estimated 800-page final report and verifying theiraccuracy in subject matter and location of the cited source. The Citations Copy Editor will be a member of the Commission’s Writing and Production Team and work closely with the content and managing editor as well as researchers. The position may also entail additional editing and research duties in the writing, editing, verifying, and production of the final report
The AWC is seeking a Research Assistant
The Commission seeks a full-time Research Assistant to provide critical research support for the completion of our final report. The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to identify relevant information within large document collection, strong organizational skills for managing and tracking source materials, and a familiarity with research methods and citation practices.
The AWC is seeking an Associate General Counsel or Paralegal
The Associate General Counsel/Paralegal will assist the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel across the full range of the Commission’s legal and operational work, with a particular focus on document and information management. This work will include review and management of interview transcripts and sensitive government records, support for declassification requests associated with the Commission’s final report, and organization and transfer of the Commission’s permanent records as it completes its statutory mandate

The AWC is seeking a Data Analyst/ Data Scientist
The Commission seeks a full-time Data Analyst / Scientist to source, vet, and structure datasets in support of the Commission’s research and final report. This role requires strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to translate raw and often conflicting data into reliable, well-documented material that research teams and the graphic design team can build on.
The AWC is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist
The Senior Communications Specialist will lead the commission’s communications engagement through completion and release of its Congressionally mandated review of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan. This person will serve as the primary communications advisor to the Commission’s Co-Chairs, Commissioners, and Executive Director providing strategic counsel and direct support across traditional communications and outreach lines of effort.

This role will focus on establishing and maintaining positive relationships with key stakeholders in the US Senate and US House of Representatives, including leadership and member offices, and committee staff. This individual will report directly to the Senior Advisor, Legislative Affairs.
